| Response to a Recent Post |
[22 Nov 2008|11:15am] |
I would like to say something about a recent post made by indiasoup , if it's ok with the mods. The post is here.
For starters, I want to say that I think the shirt is offensive not to just vegetarians, but to anyone who loves and cares for animals. Anyone who has ever had a pet knows that animals are worth more than that. The shirt is obviously designed to offend and as such, it is so inane that it is below our notice, if that makes sense. Stuff like that isn't worth bothering about. It's middle school, and we're all above that.
Secondly, this is supposed to be a community for vegetarians and vegans to come together to discuss issues and for support and encouragement and help. I was really shocked to read so much negativity in this post. I like it here because it reminds me that I'm not alone, even though I have exactly 0 friends that are vegetarian. I gave up meat over 18 years ago and I've known only a handful of others over the years. Sometimes it's hard feeling like I'm the only one and it's nice knowing there are others out there.
So, I think that means that we all get to have the occasional rant. And when we rant, we deserve to have some support and encouragement and be talked back down, not attacked for stating our frustrations. We all have bad days, we may not always present ourselves and our views in the best light. But this is supposed to be a place to find encouragement, not persecution. If we can't voice our opinions and frustrations about vegetarianism here, then where can we?
Can we all take a step back and a deep breath?
And, indiasoup ? *hugs* I've been there. I've had days where I get so angry at how horrible humans are, to animals and to each other that it just makes me crazy. It sucks, I hate it. I've had my fair share of rants. But at the same time, it's encouraging to me to hear about new vegetarians and the reasons they've stopped eating meat and knowing that there are others out there who are, every day, fighting the same fight and making the same choices. Don't lose your passion for doing (and eating) what you believe is right.
And to make this relevant to vegetarianism, I'll ask: anyone interested in my pomegranate bulgar wheat salad recipe? It's great for Thanksgiving and it's easy to make. Plus, pomegranates=nom!!

Hey everyone.
I've been a vegetarian before and this time I want to stick to it! I think one of my main problems is that I haven't cooked before, and I would like to change that.
What kind of foods do you suggest I buy when I go to the store? I always get some veggies and fruit (usually brocolli, green beans, lots of beans, grapefruit, bananas, strawberries) but I need to get ingredients that will work together in recipes.
I'd like to try and make some seitan and go from there...what else would you all suggest?
Thanks! lily

Montreal last night was pretty much amazing. I met shemightbe_asia in line and gave her the full Montreal experience. Poor girl was from the south and it was darn cold (below freezing if anybody wanted to know). But she got to see snow for the first time which was hella cute.
I got some okay pictures, my camera kind of sucks. So here it is:

| Gabey Baby & Bronx Mowgli |
[22 Nov 2008|05:06am] |
Here's what Gabe did once Bronx Mowgli was born (people living under a rock... Bronx Mowgli Wentz is Pete and Ashlee's new baby boy):
Ever the multitasker, Cobra Starship frontman Gabe Saporta managed to work not only a few congrats but also a proposed nickname (and a thinly veiled bribe) into his e-mail.
"I just want to congratulate you guys on your new arrival (which I know you will nickname Gabey Baby)," he wrote. "Just to let you know, I am having a custom purple hoodie made with a special baby-proof bling gold chain with my face in it."

| What time do Cobra take the stage? |
[21 Nov 2008|01:46pm] |
I posted a few weeks ago asking about the opening band and thanks for all your info.
As it turns out, my transmission blew this past week and I am carless. My friend has kindly agreed to drive me to the show (it is about two hours away...he rocks!!!) but he can't get me there for doors at 7:30 pm.
Anyway, if doors are at 7:30, what time should I expect Cobra Starship to take the stage? Approximately of course.
Thanks for all your help!

Kay guys so I won't be able to update the TAInews twitter as often as before so I need someone to take over. It seems like people like it so I don't want it to die. If you think you can run it for me, email me at: tm92@tmail.com . It'd be nice if you actually have a twitter so you know how it works & can actually spell because that's important. :)
So that this doesn't take up space...we shall play the In My Pants game!
Sleeping With Giants in my pants.
That sounds so dirty. xD OKAY, GO!

| Eidos Enlists My Chemical Romance for Shellshock 2 Soundtrack |
[19 Nov 2008|11:03pm] |
Unprecedented collaboration elevates war-torn fear to new levels.
Eidos Interactive, creator of some of the world’s leading videogame properties, today announced an unprecedented collaboration with the multi-platinum art-rock group My Chemical Romance to create the soundtrack for the upcoming psychological first person shooter Shellshock 2: Blood Trails.
From “Let’s Live for Today” to “My Girl,” the acclaimed New Jersey quartet has reinvented more than twenty hits that truly illuminate the game’s harrowing setting of Cambodia ravaged by the Vietnam War. My Chemical Romance’s contributions mark the largest body of music recorded by a blue-chip act exclusively for a game.
“Ever since that first crack at Contra when I was ten, I have been a lifelong gamer, and finding an opportunity like this that indulges my own fantasies while promoting our artistic integrity is truly once in a lifetime,” said My Chemical Romance lead singer Gerald Way.
Additionally, audiophiles will be to geek out with a copy of the game’s soundtrack on vinyl when they purchase the PlayStation®3 edition of Shellshock 2: Blood Trails.
“My Chemical Romance are relentless auditory innovators, and it was only natural that we decided to partner with them to create the most visceral and menacing depiction of war to grace the medium,” said Lee Singleton, General Manager of Eidos Game Studios.
Shellshock 2: Blood Trails will be released in February 2009 on the Xbox 360® video game and entertainment system from Microsoft®, PlayStation®3 computer entertainment system and Games for Windows®.

| another crazy idea from me |
[22 Nov 2008|01:01am] |
Okay, so if you're not sick of me yet I've been stewing another idea for a little bit and a comment from a fellow LJ-er made me think to throw it out there before seriously pursuing it.
I have to give props to sir Nick Scimeca because I'm stealing the idea from him but I was thinking of maybe putting together an FOB photo book of pictures from all the shows I've been to throughout the years. It would cover 5 years, 68 shows, 20+ states and both film and digital. Along with the photos I would probably also write little memories from the night or maybe explain why a certain photograph holds certain memories for me.
I have no idea how much it would cost to put together and I'd probably put it together in super small batches but I just wanted to toss the idea out there and see if anyone was interested.
If you think this sounds like an awesome idea, just shoot me a comment with your email and I'll send you more deetz when I congeal the idea some more.
Also, if you wanna maybe offer some constructive criticism.
Happy baby Bronx/Twilight day!
I just made a super long rant about Twilight on my own LJ haha

| Kidney Stones and lactose intolerance, oh my! |
[22 Nov 2008|07:25am] |
Hello all you veg*n's!
I'm hoping someone can give me some advice.
I was a vegetarian (lacto-ovo.) for about 4 years when I was younger. I was not eating properly so I added seafood back into my diet and eventually chicken. About 3 years ago I became lactose intolerant. (yay!) I can eat eggs and yogurt, but anything with cheese or milk in it makes me horribly sick. Fast forward another two years and I am plagued with the worst pain of my life--kidney stones. I had to have them surgically removed and the urologist gave me a list of foods that I should avoid or completely limit.
( The Dreaded List )
I love so many things on that list, (not the coffee or chocolate) it's ridiculous. In your opinion, is it healthy for me to attempt a vegetarian diet again considering my eating restrictions? If so, what are some options for good protein sources? Oh and I am 23 if that matters at all.
I'm really at a loss so any advice would be appreciated.

| 11/23 - Buffalo, NY |
[22 Nov 2008|12:18am] |
Hey guys!
I was just wondering if anyone was going out to the Buffalo show on Sunday. I'm going all by myself, haha, and I would love to make some new friends! Come talk to me so I won't be lonely haha. I'll be wearing one of Jess's glow-in-the-dark TAI bracelets :D And...here's a picture of me I guess (at the M&M store in Manhattan heh), so if you see me, please come say hi. :)
And to make this not completely weird and random, I've never been to this venue before (Town Ballroom), and in fact, I've never even been to Buffalo before. Can anyone suggest a good time to arrive if doors open at 6pm? Is there a coat check? And I guess how is the venue in general/any tips or warnings or anything? Haha.
Thanks a lot and I hope to see some of you at the show!

| Around 30 seconds of TAI. |
[21 Nov 2008|09:18pm] |
If you have Fuse on Demand, there's a half hour show called "Fall Out Boy Guide," something like that & it shows a little clip at the end of TAI at the Metro in Chicago. i'm guessin' it took place in '06 cause it features long-haired Beckett, afro Sisky and Tom Conrad. it's not much but yeah, just an observation. yupp. just letting ya'll know! if this is pointless or has already been posted, i'll go ahead & delete! :D

| Favorite holiday recipes |
[21 Nov 2008|11:41pm] |
Since this is a common question, and because I've been given the task of making something vegetarian and amazing for Thanksgiving -- oh, my ever-intrigued family -- I thought this may be a good place to put your favorite veg*n recipes for the holiday season. This can include Thanksgiving, Christmas, Chanukah (please, I really need help with that one), Yule, and anything else you may be celebrating this time of year.
So, onward! What's your favorite holiday recipe?
